Juhani Matinlassi has extensive experience in public procurement, large-scale projects, competition law, contracts and dispute resolution. He has a particularly strong background in defence-sector legal matters, having served for nearly seven years as a commercial lawyer at the Defence Command of the Finnish Defence Forces, where he was responsible for major strategic procurements and related litigation, including proceedings before the EU courts.

Selected work from career prior to Waselius

* Successfully represented the Finnish Defence Forces in court proceedings related to an Article 346 defence procurement matter, which concerned the procurement of a new small arms family for the Defence Forces as well as the creation of a domestic production capability of the same.
* Advised the Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kansaneläkelaitos, Kela) in the Eepos ICT procurement project and successfully represented Kela in two related court proceedings. Eepos is Kela’s strategic development programme that will renew the entire operational and technological foundation of how Finnish social security is implemented by 2032.

* Project lawyer in the Finnish Defence Forces strategic acquisition programmes
