The Finnish Financial Supervision Authority and Insurance Supervisory Authority have on 1 January 2009 merged to form the Finnish Financial Supervisory Authority (FFSA). The FFSA operates independently under the Bank of Finland and is responsible for the supervision of entities such as banks, insurance and pension companies and brokers, investment firms, fund management companies and Nasdaq OMX Nordic Helsinki.
The new FFSA will be vested largely with the same powers and functions as previously held by the former two authorities. The websites of the old Financial Supervision Authority and the Insurance Supervisory Authority (www.rahoitustarkastus.fi and www.vakuutusvalvonta.fi) will serve as information portals until the new website of the FFSA www.finanssivalvonta.fi is formally launched.
